Student loan deductions depend on your earnings above the threshold for your plan. The amount you still owe does not set the percentage taken from your pay.

Calculate student loan repayments
Choose your plan and tax year
Plans 1, 2, 4 and 5 use 9% above their thresholds. Postgraduate repayments use 6% and can run alongside an undergraduate plan. Plan availability and thresholds differ between tax years.
Bonuses and uneven pay
Payroll applies thresholds each pay period. A bonus can therefore give a different result from a steady annual estimate. Check the official refund rules if your total yearly income is below the threshold.
More than one job
Employers can calculate repayments separately for each job. Self Assessment can work out a different amount using total income. The two-job calculator estimates payroll deductions; it does not predict the final repayment on a tax return.
