Which rate applies?

The apprentice rate applies if you are under 19, or aged 19 or over in the first year of your apprenticeship. Once you are 19 or over and have finished the first year, the minimum rate for your age applies.

Check your paid hours

Use your paid working hours, including relevant training time. The annual estimate assumes 52 paid weeks. Minimum-wage checks use your employer’s pay-reference period.

Check NI separately

The tool estimates category A employee NI unless you choose an exemption. Under-16s and people with other NI exemptions need the appropriate setting; the calculator does not decide whether you qualify.
